What Kinmara actually sounds like
Four musicians, built around a fiddle, playing instruments you can see.
If the names that come to mind are Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers or Of Monsters and Men, you are in roughly the right area. Kinmara plays stomping, harmony led folk alongside quieter acoustic ballads, and the fiddle sits at the front of most of it.
Because we close mic the whole band as standard, we can also give you a studio mixed recording of your first dance, mixed and mastered at Gallery Studios in London rather than captured on a phone at the back of the room.
The first set leans properly folk. Later on, once the room has loosened up, we move into indie pop and chart songs given the same acoustic treatment, so the night builds instead of changing genre on people halfway through.
It works in a converted barn in the Cotswolds, a tipi in a Sussex field or a marquee in a Scottish glen, because an acoustic band belongs in rooms like that rather than having to fight them.

Where the Mumford comparison comes from
It is the comparison couples reach for most often, and we do not mind it. Their songs are among the most requested things we play, and the lineup lines up neatly: guitar, fiddle and a lot of voices going at once. I Will Wait and Little Lion Man are usually in there somewhere.
The reason they work for us is that we are not covering them over a backing track. Four people singing hard at the same time is the actual mechanism behind that sound, and it is the same mechanism whether the song is theirs or not.
Past that, Kinmara's setlist takes in The Lumineers, Ben Howard, Hozier, George Ezra and Vance Joy, plus chart songs rearranged to sit alongside them. Guests tend to recognise more of the night than they expect to.

Where the violin fits
The same instrument, doing two very different jobs across the day.
In the daytime it is the quiet one. A single fiddle line under a ceremony carries further than a guitar does, and it holds a room that has gone silent without anyone having to turn anything up.
By the evening it is doing the opposite job. Driving fiddle over a full band is what gives folk its momentum, and it is the difference between a dancefloor that politely fills and one that goes properly.
You can have it either way round. Our Acoustic Quartet covers the daytime with violin, guitar, cajon and vocals, or the violin can simply stay with the full band all night. First dances in particular tend to be worth doing with a live fiddle rather than without one.
